18th Feature: Celebrating Lands and Waters Protected in 2014

With the close of 2014, it’s time to reflect on the recently protected lands and waters that 2014, the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, brought with it here in the US!

Our Featured Wilderness Thinkers this week are the MANY dedicated individuals, groups, coalitions and elected officials who worked so hard in their own communities, across the country and in Washington DC to get these Lands and Waters protected as Wilderness, National Monuments, Preserves, Reserves and National Parks.

We are pleased to acknowledge that in 2014 the following places were protected:

Each of these now protected places has its own unique stories, history and ecology, but in this post, we are simply proclaiming them as protected and directing you to other resources for more info. This is not a comprehensive list, though we have tried to be as inclusive as possible.

Please tell us about the 2014 Land and Water protection victories that you are celebrating!
